HAMILTON, N.Y. — Courtney
Bosse dribbled into the box and scored in the 29th minute off a
pass from freshman Courtney
Hoenicke and senior goalkeeper Nicole
Markert earned her second shutout of the season Sunday in a 1-0
Bonnies (4-3-0) win over host Colgate (1-6-0) at Van Doren Field in
the Colgate Nike Invitational.
"I don't think there has been a game where I have been more
impressed with our team discipline," said coach Manoj Khettry of
his team's defensive-minded victory. "We had a very set gameplan on
how we wanted to defend and we did a fantastic job keeping our team
shape. We defended well individually and as a group."
The two weekend victories and the plus-three goal differential
netted the Bonnies a tie for first place with Seton Hall in the
final Invitational standings.
Behind the stout defense, Markert picked up her second shutout
in three games and has now guided the team to victory in each of
her last three outings. The clean sheet is the 12th of her career,
while the win brings her overall record to 25-24. Through her four
starts (3-1), Markert has seldom been tested, making just five
saves over 135 minutes in net.
"I think she's settling in and she is proving to be the leader
we knew she is capable of being," added Khettry on Markert's recent
success. "I think the most important element is that she knows how
to win."
Bosse, who had not recorded a point in the five games since St.
Bonaventure's season-opening win opposite Bucknell, fielded
Hoenicke's pass during a slashing run and scored the game's lone
goal to notch her 22nd career tally. She is now tied for 12th on
the Bonnies' all-time goals list.
The Bonnies return to action at 5 p.m. on Friday against
Canisius in the second game of the Puma/Big 4 Tournament hosted by
St. Bonaventure. Buffalo and Niagara meet in the opening match,
slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. Play concludes on Sunday when Buffalo
and Canisius square off at noon and St. Bonaventure plays Niagara
at 2:30 p.m.
NOTES: Since solidifying the back four
defenders after the Buffalo match, the Bonnies have recorded two

Bonaventure's Anna
