BRADFORD, Pa. - St. Bonaventure seniors Tori Burchett and Janelle Taylor each scored to lead the Bonnies (7-5-3, 2-1-2 Atlantic 10) to a shutout victory against Saint Louis at Bradford High School for Senior Day on Sunday.
The seniors both tallied off assists from sophomores – Courtney Hoenicke and Jordan Calabria respectively – as the Bonnies earned their sixth shutout of the year.
Hoenicke put a long shot on target in the 43rd minute that was deflected to Burchett, who gave the Bonnies a lead they would not relinquish.
SBU keeper Jennifer Andrew made four of her seven saves in the second half, and Taylor made good on a pass from Calabria off a free give to cap the scoring.
St. Bonaventure started all nine of its seniors, including two with injuries that would have hindered their play. After the opening kickoff however, Saint Louis (4-7-3, 2-2-1) kicked the ball out of bounds to allow the Bonnies to substitute.
SBU returns to action at Rhode Island on Friday and will conclude the weekend at UMass on Sunday.
NOTES: The game was moved from McGraw-Jennings Field to Bradford due to unplayable conditions at St. Bonaventure … each Bona senior was escorted by teacher of their choosing … three yellow cards were issued, including two in the final four minutes.
