Bonnies Fall To No. 11 UMass

The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team fell to No. 11 UMass 16-10 Sunday afternoon at Alfred University's Merrill Field.

Freshman goalie Karly Kocis had a career high sixteen saves for St. Bonaventure. Previously, her career high was thirteen.

Junior Danielle Drabin led the Bonnies with three goals. Senior Christine Hanley finished with two goals and one assist, while freshman Cara Callahan also had two goals. Freshman Lauren Michaels, junior Emily Kane and senior Catie Greene all scored one goal apiece. Kane and freshman Lily Timlin each had an assist.

For UMass, freshman Katie Ferris led the Minutewomen with five goals. Juniors Nina Sarcona and Dayna Defliese each scored three goals, while classmate Jesse O'Donnell had three goals and an assist.

In a tightly contested early going, UMass took a 5-2 lead and started to pull away after a ball caromed off a defender's stick and into the net. The Minutewomen scored three straight goals to end the half with a 7-3 advantage.

Massachusetts scored 29 seconds into the final period, before SBU rattled off three of the game's next four goals to make it 9-6. UMass responded with three unanswered goals of its own to put the game just out of reach, although the Bonnies pulled to within four, 14-10, with 4:39 to go.

The Bonnies return home Friday to take on LaSalle at 3 p.m.
