WEST POINT, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure women's tennis player Marissa Brossard (pictured) picked up a singles victory in the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Friday at Army's Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
Brossard bested Buffalo's Tamara Markovic, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, in the singles qualifying Round of 32, but the sophomore's bid to earn a berth in the main singles draw ended with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Cornell's Dena Tanebaum in the Round of 16.
In doubles competition, meanwhile, Brossard and teammate Fatya Amiri were defeated 8-0 in the Round of 64 by Cornell's Lauren Frazier and Sarah O'Neil on Friday.
Amiri, also a sophomore, is scheduled to meet Columbia's Ioana Alecsiu in the Round of 128 singles main draw on Saturday. The winner of that matchup will face Yale's Blair Seidman, who earned a bye into the Round of 64.
The Northeast Regional, which started Friday and runs through Tuesday, features the top singles and doubles players from 46 Division I schools across the Northeast. Singles and doubles main draw winners will advance to the ITA National Championship, Nov. 8-11 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
