PITTSBURGH – The St. Bonaventure women's swimming and diving team hits the road for its first official meet of the 2012-2013 season at Trees Pool in the Steel City on Saturday against Big East foe Pittsburgh. The diving portion of the event begins at 11, with swimming set to commence an hour later at Noon.
The meet will be a 'Pink the Pool' event as both the Bonnies and Panthers will sport pink swim caps as they join the fight against breast cancer. The meet will also be the Panthers first official race of the year.
SBU participated in an exhibition meet last Saturday at the University at Buffalo against Niagara, Binghamton and the host Bulls in preparation of the Pitt meet. The Bonnies will look to bounce back from last season's 213.5-84.5 defeat to the Panthers.
In last year's meeting, then-sophomore Jeanette Dietrich, and freshmen Meaghan McCann, Lauren Caldwell and Rachel Bull all took third-place finishes for the Bonnies.
Dietrich placed in the 50-yard freestyle (25.34), McCann placed in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.56), Caldwell placed in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.02) and Bull placed in the 500-yard freestyle (5:12.71). McKenzie Courtney touched in with a time of 2:28.79 in the 200-yard breaststroke, which was also good for a third-place finish.
Last weekend, the Bonnies competed in the annual WNY Invite where Lauren Caldwell finished fourth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:12.98 and swam in for a second-place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:36.59. Freshman Elizabeth Malone showcased her talents for the Brown and White and touched in at 2:07.86 in the 200-yard butterfly, good for a first-place finish. Adelyn Graf finished in second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.05. She also touched in at 4:47.11 in the 400-yard IM, which was good for a third place finish.
Following the meet against the Panthers, the Bonnies travel to Buffalo to face Little Three rival Canisius on Oct. 26.
