@BonniesLax Kicks Off 2013 Season At Winthrop

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure lacrosse team will kick off the 2013 season at Eagle Field in Rock Hill, South Carolina against the Winthrop Eagles Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1:00 p.m.

Winthrop comes into the Bonnies game with a 2-1 overall record. The Eagles downed Howard 20-10, fell to Navy 23-4 and defeated Marquette 17-7. The Bonnies should keep an eye on Freshman Hayley Krause who netted five goals and one assist in the first two games. Krause and fellow freshman teammate Megan Wallenhorst earned Big South weekly honors for their overall performance.

We won't be seeing the Bonnies on their home field until March 20th when they face Colgate. The Brown and White will travel to Coastal Carolina for a game against the Chanticleers Feb. 27 then stay on the road for games against Delaware St., Niagara and Siena. The game against Siena will serve as a home game for the Bonnies, but will be played at Corning War Memorial Stadium in Corning, N.Y.

In the A-10 schedule, the Bonnies will host La Salle, UMass, St. Joe's, and Duquense at home; Richmond, George Washington and Temple on the road.

St. Bonaventure finished the 2012 season 3-10 overall and 0-7 in the A-10. Last year the Bonnies had a promising start to the season with 15-11 and 16-10 wins against Niagara and Detroit, scoring 31 goals in the first two outings. The Brown and White then dealt with five straight losses, and even after their hard fought 14-10 victory against Bucknell, the team failed to qualify for the Atlantic 10 Championship.

The Bonnies have been picked, by the Atlantic 10 coaches, to finish 8th in the 2013 season. Massachusetts was selected to finish first.

Head Coach Ryan Lynn will be in his second season at the helm of the Bonnies. The roster features only three seniors: Defenders Kelly Yaworsky and Kellyn Savage, and attack player Marybeth Madia. The rest of the relatively young team includes five freshman, five sophomores, and seven juniors including Erin Thomas who scored 22 goals last season, second to Danielle Drabin who finished her career with 127 goals (fourth all-time), 42 assists (fifth all-time), and 169 points (sixth all-time).

The Eagles have an even younger team with a total of 21 freshman, two sophomores and one junior. The Eagles only have two players on its roster that have NCAA lacrosse playing experience.

Be sure to follow @BonniesLax all season long for in-game updates, news and notes.
