ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's tennis team completed a productive weekend, with two dual match victories in three opportunities.
The Bonnies (2-3) scored 4-3 victories at home over Robert Morris on Friday and Slippery Rock on Saturday, before suffering a 7-0 loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday.
SBU's top four single players of Fatya Amiri, Marissa Brossard, Kathryn Kvas and Taylor Cole (pictured) each posted victories against both Robert Morris and Slippery Rock. On Saturday against the Rock, Amiri prevailed 6-0, 6-2 over Sarah Joumond, Brossard bested Elisabeth Yetiskul, 6-1, 6-4, Kvas rallied past Janelle Krantz, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 and Cole topped Lauren Coggins, 6-3, 6-3.
The sophomore duo of Amiri and Brossard produced the Bonnies' lone doubles win against Slippery Rock, blanking Joummond and Yetiskul, 8-0, at first doubles. Kvas and Cole registered an 8-3 win on Friday over Robert Morris on but fell 8-3 to the Rock's Krantz and Coggins.
Against Pitt (2-1) on Sunday, Amiri and Brossard each had three-match singles winning streaks snapped. Brossard – now 7-5 on the season in singles competition – won the second set against Jocelyn Lu but ultimately fell 7-5, 2-6, 10-6 at No. 2 singles. Amiri was bested by Taylor Washington, 6-3, 6-3. The Panthers won the remaining three singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles play against Pitt, Amiri and Brossard suffered an 8-5 loss, Kvas and Cole lost 8-1 and SBU's third team of Riley Archer and Jillian Hammell was blanked, 8-0.
The Bonnies return to the court at 11 a.m. Saturday against Colgate at the SBU Fitness Center.
