PHILADELPHIA – The St. Bonaventure trio of Fatya Amiri, Marissa Brossard and Kathryn Kvas each registered singles and doubles victories in leading the Bonnies to 4-3 Atlantic 10 women's tennis victory over La Salle on Friday.
The win improved St. Bonaventure to 3-12 overall, 1-2 in conference and snapped a 10-match losing streak. La Salle fell to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in A-10 play.
Amiri posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory a first singles over Kiara Smith, Brossard prevailed 6-0, 3-0 over Celesta Smith at second singles after Smith retired in the second set, and Kvas (pictured) chipped in a 6-3, 6-0 third singles triumph over Elli Vamvakitis to key the Bonnies
Now with 11 victories apiece, Amiri (11-10) and Brossard (11-11) remain tied for team-high honors for singles wins.
The sophomore duo also partnered for their team-best fifth doubles victory of the campaign, by virtue of an 8-0 shutout of Kiara Smith and Celesta Smith from the first position. Kvas, meanwhile, combined with senior classmate Riley Archer for an 8-5 victory over Vamvakitis and Chloe Trave at second doubles.
SBU's Archer and freshman Jillian Hammell were bested in straight sets at fourth and fifth singles, respectively, and the Bonnies won despite forfeiting the sixth singles match and the third doubles match.
St. Bonaventure will look to stay on the winning track when it travels across town to face Saint Joseph's at 11 a.m. Saturday in another Atlantic 10 match.
