Women's Tennis Continues Season At Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure women's tennis team returns to the court against Youngstown State at noon on Friday at Boardman Tennis Center.

The Bonnies (2-10) and Penguins (6-3) have met in dual matches each of the last three years, with St. Bonaventure winning twice. Youngstown State also visited St. Bonaventure for the SBU Fall Classic in October.

SBU collected a 5-2 victory over YSU last season a 4-3 win in 2010, while the Penguins topped the Bonnies 6-1 in 2011.

In this year's SBU Fall Classic, Youngstown State had players reach each of the three flight championships, with Marta Burak defeating teammate Margarita Sadovnikova for the Flight A title. St. Bonaventure's players went winless in four singles matches and two doubles matches against YSU players in the tournament.

Burak is 13-4 on the year in singles play and teammate Paula de Man is 7-1. The duo has helped the Penguins forge team mark of 52-47 in singles matches. Led by Burak and Sadovnikova's 11-3 record, Youngstown State is 27-20 in doubles competition.

The Penguins has a six-match winning streak snapped at Ohio State on Sunday. The string of six wins included victories over Dayton, Robert Morris and IPFW. St. Bonaventure also defeated Robert Morris earlier this season, but suffered a home loss to IPFW on Sunday.

Sophomore Fatya Amiri will bring in a three-match singles winning streak for the Bonnies, who are winless on the road this year. Behind the trio of victories, Amiri has evened her individual mark at 9-9 and ranks second on the team to classmate Marissa Brossard's 10 wins.

After this weekend, the Bonnies return home to host Siena at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17 at the SBU Fitness Center.
