ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure softball team (6-32) saw its losing streak finally come to an end with a 10-8 win over Binghamton (19-12) in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The pair of games served as the first two games at home for the Bonnies who spent their first 36 contests on the road.
In the first game Binghamton scored runs in each of the first four innings to build a 7-0 lead before surrendering two runs to the Brown and White in the bottom of the fifth. St. Bonaventure would pick up a third run in the seventh but that would be all as the Bearcats came away with the 7-3 victory.
The Bonnies managed just five hits with all five coming from different players. Lindsay Stowell drove in the only two RBI's. Carly Bilchak (4-12) started in the circle for the Brown and White, struck out one while giving up seven hits.
In game two the St. Bonaventure bats pounded out 10 hits for 10 runs, the most runs the team has scored since its last win, an 11-6 victory over Rhode Island on March 29th.
Alexis Sloat took to the circle for St. Bona in the second contest and struggled early but settled in after giving up three runs in the top of the first. The offense answered with two runs of their in the bottom of the first.
The Bonnies put up four more runs in the third to give themselves a seemingly comfortable 6-3 lead. But in the fifth Sloat struggled again giving a home run and four more runs, giving Binghamton a 7-6 advantage with just six out left for the home team to make a charge.
St. Bonaventure answered the call once again, scoring four runs to reclaim the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Sloat kept the Bearcats at bay the rest of the afternoon to lead the Bonnies to a 10-8 victory.
Emily McDonough, Ashley Snider and Grace Rooney each pounded out multiple hits in the second game. Lauren Waite provided one hit but drove in three runs in the process. Snider drove in two runs herself. Rooney picked up the sixth RBI for the Bonnies. The remaining four runs were unearned.
Alexis Sloat tossed seven innings striking out five while giving up 14 hits to the tune of eight runs (seven earned), walking just one.
The Bonnies are back in action on Saturday (Apr. 20) when they jump back into Atlantic 10 action by welcoming Charlotte to McGraw-Jennings Field. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon. Game two will begin approximately twenty minutes after completion of the first game.
