@BonniesWSoccer Falls Short in Friday Afternoon Match With Austin Peay

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team (1-4-1) battled with Austin Peay (5-0-1) on Friday afternoon but ultimately came up just short falling by a score of 3-2. The Lady Governors tallied a pair of scores in the final 13 minutes to take the positive result.

Austin Peay controlled the pace for the majority of the first half. In the fourth minute the Lady Govs failed on a corner kick attempt, allowing the Brown and White to clear the ball out of the danger zone. Corey Osborn sent the ball back into the box with a kick from beyond midfield that Shelby Olszewski would wrestle past St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Megan Junker for the first score of the game.

The Bonnies would not waste much time getting a chance of their own however. Brittany Charles sent a corner kick to the opposite post that Abby Maiello gathered on her foot with her back to the goal. She flicked the ball over her shoulder past the hands of the diving goalkeeper, off the crossbar and out of play.

The Brown and White would struggle to generate additional chances as they would find themselves offside multiple times on the break.

Megan Junker closed the first half with four saves while Austin Peay goalkeeper Nikki Filipone was forced to make one. APSU outshot the Bonnies  6-4

The Bonnies would even the score in the 59th minute when Stephanie Jenkins placed a perfectly timed pass on the foot of Alyssa Lapp who found herself clear of the defense. Walking in one-on-one with the goalkeeper, Lapp stepped around her and eased the ball into the net for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

After several more missed opportunities, it was Lauren Hill this time who made a brilliant touch pass to Molly Curry who fired home her second goal of 2013 into the upper right-side corner, giving the Brown and White a 2-1 advantage with just over 16 minutes to play.

Austin Peay would not allow the score to stand for long however as just three minutes later, Gina Fabbro placed a ball underneath a diving Junker to knot the tally, 2-2. Courtney Sheppard picked up an assist on the play.

SBU struggled to generate another legitimate chance. The Lady Governors capitalized in the 88th minute when Gina Fabbro took a pass from Tatiana Ariza and poked the ball past Junker during a scrum in the goal mouth.

The Bonnies would not find a way to square the score and the Lady Govs would remain unbeaten in 2013. The Brown and White will remain at home and welcome Hofstra on Sunday (Sept. 15) for a 1 p.m. kick off.
