ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Senior Alyssa Lapp scored a pair of goals to lead St. Bonaventure to a 3-1 win over UMass-Lowell on Friday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field.
Lapp notched both of her scores less than a minute apart early in the second half to break a 1-1 tie. In the 52nd minute, she took a crossing pass from teammate Abby Maiello and redirected it past UMass-Lowell keeper Jane Hatzikonstantis. Just seconds later, Lapp dribbled though the Riverhawk defense and fired a shot by Hatzikonstantis to put the Bonnies firmly in control.
Lapp now has a team-leading six goals on the season.
St. Bonaventure (2-5-1) snapped a three-game losing skid while UMass-Lowell remains winless at 0-7.
UMass-Lowell grabbed an early lead when Erin Scanlon scored on a free kick from 25 yards, her shot going off the hands of Bonnies sophomore keeper Christina Sarokon in the 6th minute.
St. Bonaventure evened the score at 1-1 in the 20th minute. Junior Molly Curry was awarded a penalty kick after a hand ball by UMass-Lowell defender directly in front of her own net. Curry took advantage by drilling a low shot which banked off the left post and into the goal.
Sarokon made two saves on the day while Hatzikonstantis recorded seven. The Bonnies controlled possession for most of the afternoon and wound up outshooting UMass-Lowell 23-7.
St. Bonaventure's next game will be its Atlantic 10 Conference opener, on the road at Saint Louis next Friday, Sept. 27.
