ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A goal with just under three minutes left gave Saint Louis a 3-2 win over St. Bonaventure in the Atlantic 10 Conference women's soccer opener for both teams on Friday evening at Hermann Stadium.
Livi Logan-Wood took a pass from Kirsten Clemens and beat Bonnies keeper Christina Sarokon to the right side of the net to break a 2-2 stalemate, spoiling the Bonnies' bid to grab a point on the road. Logan-Wood's goal came less than a minute after a shot by Clemens hit the crossbar behind Sarokon. Saint Louis (2-8-1) pressured the Bonnies throughout the second half and outshot them 18-7 on the night.
St. Bonaventure (2-6-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 3:03 into the contest when senior Molly Curry scored her fourth goal of the year off a pass from junior Brittany Charles.
The scored remained 1-0 favor the visitors into halftime. Sarokon made three saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the Billikens off the scoreboard.
The shutout ended nine minutes into the second half when Saint Louis's Jessie Jarrett beat Sarokon from 25 yards away. Eleven minutes later, the Billikens seized a 2-1 lead when Tori Belgeri fired a shot to the lower right corner past Sarokon.
St. Bonaventure came right back, however, and evened the match at 2-2 in the 67th minute when sophomore Stephanie Jenkins sent a crossing pass into the box and classmate Lauren Hill redirected it into the top right corner of the net. It was Hill's second goal of the season.
The win ended Saint Louis' nine-game winless streak. Sarokon made five saves while Saint Louis keeper Hannah Benben recorded just one.
St. Bonaventure will return home to host Robert Morris on Monday, Sept. 30, at 4:00.
