The Short Story:
The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team faced a setback in its quest for the Atlantic 10 playoffs as they fell to the UMass Minutewoman, 2-0 on Friday, Oct. 24.
UMass controlled the tempo in the beginning portion of the game, which would lead to an early goal in the 18th minute. The sophomore forward, Alyssa Fratarcangeli, notched the first goal of the game with a hard shot into the lower left corner that came off a poor clearance by the SBU defense.
St. Bonaventure would have its chances in the first half as they tallied three shots that tested the goalkeeper.
The Bonnies felt the pressure in the second half as they controlled possession for most of the half. St. Bona outshot the Minutewoman, 12-7 in the half, but was unsuccessful in its attempts.
Massachusetts added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute as Jackie Bruno, registered her fifth goal of the season with a shot from 10 yards out that she received from a cross into the box.
All of the 17 shots complied by the Bonnies on Friday were recorded by Abby Maiello, Brittany Charles, Lauren Hill and Danielle Vis. Maiello led the team with six shots, while Charles had five and Hill and Vis each had three.
Junior goalkeeper Christian Sarokon had 10 saves.Â
