Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Bonnies fell on day two of the Charleston Southern Tournament, losing to Jacksonville State by a score of 7-2 and in game two to host-school Charleston Southern, 3-0.
With the loss, the Brown and White moves to 0-4 and conclude their early season tournament against Jacksonville State who was predicted to win the Ohio Valley Conference East Division in 2014 and Charleston Southern who was predicted to finish fifth in the Big South preseason coaches' poll.
Game one:
In similar fashion to yesterday's affair with the Jacksonville State, the Gamecocks tallied four runs in the first inning to get an early jump on St. Bonaventure. Jacksonville State would add another run in the second inning to take an early 5-0 lead.
The Bonnies were held without a run until the top of third when Kelly Farrell scored off a Christine Watson RBI. The Bonnies would only record one run that inning and would leave two stranded.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Gamecocks added two more runs to bring the score to 7-1. In the top of the seventh, Kelly Farrell scored for the second time of the game when junior Grace Rooney sent her home. The Bonnies would leave two base runners stranded and Jacksonville State would close out the 7-2 victory and improve to 5-3 on the season. SBU's six hits vs. the Gamecocks was a season-high for the club.
Freshman Kristen Hickling would pick up the loss on the mound for St. Bonaventure but would strike out two batters on the day
Game two:
St. Bonaventure and Charleston Southern were scoreless through four innings today and were both hitless until the bottom of the third when Amanda Matsumoto of CSU laid down a bunt and got on base. The Bonnies first hit of the game would come when junior Grace Rooney doubled down the right field line but would be thrown out as she tried advancing to third.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Buccaneers would end the scoring drought and tallied three runs off of three hits. The Bonnies would try to answer in the top of the sixth, but stranded three base-runners as Kelly Farrell walked and Emily McDonough and Kelli Rohan both singled.
Charleston Southern was held without a hit since its rally in the bottom of the fifth, as the Bonnies were able to add another base runner in the top of the seventh after freshman Kristen Hickling singled to third. However, Hickling was left on base and the Buccaneers solidified their shutout victory over the Bonnies and remained undefeated this season.
