Box Score ST. LOUIS - The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team defeated Saint Louis, 1-0, Sunday afternoon for their second straight conference victory behind another game-winning goal from senior Lauren Hill.
A tightly contested match the entire way, Hill broke the scoreless tie in the 73rd minute to give St. Bonaventure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Bilikens. It was the second game-winner this week for Hill, who also sent the Bonnies to victory in overtime vs. Rhode Island on Thursday.
Senior Abby Maiello fed a pass to Hill who tucked the ball inside the right post from 10 yards out for her seventh goal of the season in the 74th minute for the game's only score.
Saint Louis tested the Bonnies all afternoon taking 19 shots, seven of those shots coming on net.
Beth Moore was up to challenge for St. Bonaventure. The sophomore faced seven shots and turned them all away on her way to her first career shutout.
Head coach Steve Brdarski was proud of the way his team battled saying, "We came out on the road against a good Saint Louis team and fought like Bonnies. Hard work, heart and sticking together got us this win."
"Our team had courage and guts to defend how we did," he added. "We need to get back to work come Tuesday and keep fighting through these next two road games."
Inside The Stats/Game Notes:
- The Bonnies have now won their last two conference games since starting 0-4 in conference play.
- Lauren Hill's goal gives her seven on the season. She has found the back of the net three times in the last two games.
- Beth Moore posted her first career clean sheet Sunday afternoon. The sophomore stopped all seven shots she faced.
- With the win, the Bonnies have put themselves right back into the thick of the postseason race.
- With her assist, Maiello ranks fourth in conference in points with 22 total.
- Hill now ranks sixth in the conference in goals scored with seven goals. St. Bonaventure now has two players in the top six in the conference in goals. Maiello ranks second with nine goals on the season.
- The shutout is the second for the Bonnies this season. St. Bonaventure also shutout Buffalo, 2-0, on Sept. 1.
