YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The St. Bonaventure women's swimming and diving team fell to the Youngstown State Penguins in the first dual meet of the season, 186-112, on Friday night.
The Bonnies managed to win two individual events on the night. The first win came when Devon McFadden won the 100-yard backstroke. The sophomore touched the wall in a time of 59.88, just ahead of YSU's Haley Fisher (1:00.34).
For the second win of the meet, Maria Rocchi won the 200-yard breastroke in a time of 2:30.5, just ahead of YSU's Kolbrun Jonsdottir (2:31.15).
The Bonnies also captured seven second place finishes.
Head coach Krista Carlson was pleased with her teams performance, but knows they left some points in the pool.
"We swam and dove well tonight, but we left a lot of points on the table," the second-year coach said. "We have to be a stronger team mentally and in the water, but it's only our first meet. Plenty to work on through out the rest of the season."
Carlson was especially pleased with a few standout performances.
"I was very impressed with sophomore Devon McFadden and freshmen Adele Ferris and Rachel Taylor," she said, "as well as a handful of others who had some solid swims."
Next Up: The Bonnies will be back in the pool Saturday, Oct. 17 when they travel to Colgate for a 1:00 p.m. start.
