Little 3 Rival Canisius Tops @BonniesLax In Home Opener, 14-8

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. –
The Canisius Golden Griffins netted 10 goals in the first as they ran away with its 14-8 victory over the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team on Tuesday evening in its home opener at the Marra Athletics Fields Complex.

The Golden Griffs came out running and earned the first six goals of the game. St. Bonaventure wouldn't score their first goal until the 5:38 mark off the stick of Erica Knaub. Canisius went on to add two more before Mikayla Place registered the Brown and White's second goal of the half with 2:42 on the clock. But, once again Canisius scored two more before the end of the half. To finish the half, Canisius led the Bonnies by a score of 10-2.

The second half began the same way as the first half went with Canisius scoring early and quick. The Griffs went on to score the first four goals of the half, but eventually was outscored in the half by the Bonnies. St. Bonaventure notched six goals over the final 20 minutes. Canisius was held scoreless for almost 21 minutes to finish the contest.

Netting goals for the Bonnies was Erica Knaub, Gabrielle Bradley, Mikayla Place, Rachel Perla and Kaitlin Jennings. Bradley had a total of three goals, while Place had two. Bradley leads the Brown and White in goals this season with nine. Place has a team high six assists.

Today's game was the first game for the SBU women's lacrosse team on the newly renovated turf field.

The Bonnies will continue its homestand as they host the Siena Saints on Saturday, March 14, at 12:00 p.m. at the Marra Athletics Fields Complex.
