ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse battled hard on Saturday, but fell to the Siena Siants in a nail-biter, by a score of 12-11.
In the first half, St. Bonaventure and Siena went back-and-forth in scoring. Siena was able to put the first goal up on the board at the 22:25 mark off the stick of Erin Mossop. St. Bonaventure quickly answered, as LeighAnn Stauffer tied the game up just 19 seconds later. Again, the Bonnies and the Saints traded goals, as Siena scored with 16:56 on the clock and the Brown and White responded with a goal 28 seconds later.
St. Bonaventure took its first lead of the game at the 13:33 mark off a Rachel Perla goal. The Bonnies' lead lasted almost three minutes until Siena found a way to tie it back up.
With 9:40 on the clock in the first, Mikayla Place received a yellow card to put the Bonnies a player down. It wouldn't affect the Brown and White that they were a player down, as they scored two goals in a matter of 37 seconds.
Siena and St. Bonaventure again had a scoring spree through the time of 5:39 and 5:03, when the Saints recorded two goals to the Bonnies one. At the end of the half, St. Bonaventure led Siena 6-5.
The Saints came out firing to begin the second half. Siena netted the first three goals of the half before the Bonnies were able to get one. After SBU notched its one goal, the Saints went on and scored four unanswered goals in a span of five minutes.
Down by five with less than 14 minutes to go in the game, St. Bonaventure continued to fight. Senior Kaitlin Jennings started the potential comeback for the Bonnies, as the West Chester, Ohio native scored the next two goals for St. Bonaventure to pull itself within three. Scarlett Jaworski brought the Bonnies within two at the 3:12 mark off a free position shot. St. Bonaventure added another one less than a minute later, as Gabrielle Bradley scored off an assist from Jennings to put the Brown and White down by one with two minutes to play.
Siena won the final draw control and kept control as the clocked ticked down in the final two minutes. Siena went on to clinch its second-straight victory, while St. Bonaventure has now lost its fifth-straight.
Leading the attack for St. Bonaventure was Perla, Bradley, Stauffer, Jennings and Jaworski, whom all had two goals each. Taylor Fallon added one goal. Bradley now has a team leading 11 goals, while tied with Place in points with 13.
In the net for the Bonnies was Morgan Conroy, who recorded 10 saves on the day. Ashley Holdridge of Siena picked up her first win of the season, as she came into the game in the second half, replacing Danielle DeLisio.
Up next, the Bonnies will hit the road and head to Little Three rival Niagara for a 4 p.m. matchup on Tuesday, March 17. After its meeting with Niagara, St. Bonaventure returns home to face St. Francis (Pa.) on Thursday, March 19 at 3 p.m.
