Box Score ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure scored the final four goals of the game to earn its first win of the season, a 13-9 decision over St. Francis (Pa.), on Thursday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.
It was a 9-9 tie when Mikayla Place scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal with 10:39 remaining. It took six more minutes for the Bonnies to get some breathing room when LeighAnn Stauffer made it 11-9 at the 4:11 mark with a shorthanded tally. Stauffer scored again with 2:16 remaining, and Maddison Appel finished off the victory with a goal at the 1:08 mark.
St. Bonaventure is now 1-6 on the year while St. Francis fell to 2-5.
The teams went into halftime tied at 6-6. Kaitlin Jennings scored three of the Bonnies' first half goals.
At the 25:02 mark of the second half, the Red Flash took a 7-6 lead on a goal by Jessica Fischetti, but the Bonnies tied the game less than a minute later on a tally by Mary Maestri.
Taylor Fallon and Jennings scored back-to-back goals that gave St. Bonaventure a 9-7 lead, but St. Francis came back to tie the score at 9-9 with the tying goal by Christina Fina on a free position shot with 15:17 left.
Jennings led the Bonnies with four goals while Place added three. Stauffer and Appel both scored a pair of goals while Fallon and Maestri each had one. Freshman goalie Morgan Conroy made six saves to earn her first collegiate win. St. Bonaventure out-shot St. Francis 34-19 for the day.
The Bonnies will remain at home to host Robert Morris this Sunday, March 22. Game time will be noon at the Marra Complex.
