LORETTO, Pa. – An impressive second half rally from the St. Bonaventure lacrosse team came up just short on Saturday afternoon in a 16-14 setback at St. Francis (Pa.).
Bona rallied from a 14-6 deficit with 20 minutes to play, scoring eight unanswered goals to tie the game, 14-14, at the 7:47 mark. The Red Flash was able to regain momentum, however, scoring the game's final two goals to seal the victory.
After taking a 10-4 lead into halftime, St. Francis pushed ahead 14-6 on a man-up goal by Sarah Mahon with 20:28 remaining, seemingly having the contest in complete control. From there, though, the next 13 minutes were all St. Bonaventure.
Mikayla Place and Taylor Fallon would each find the net twice apiece during the Bonnies uprising with Fallon bringing Bona all the way back on her goal with 7:47 to play.
The game remained tied for over three minutes until St. Francis finally put a scoring drought of over 17 minutes to an end when Holly Lawrence took an assist from Jessica Mazzur for the 15-14 lead and 4:09 to go.
From there, the Bonnies were not able to put another shot on goal. Sydney Rowan put the game on ice with a goal for the Red Flash with 23 seconds remaining.
Place paced the Bonnies with three goals while Fallon and Rachel Perla each netted two goals. Place also handed out five assists for eight points on the afternoon. Place's outing gives her 121 career points, moving into a tie for 12th in Bona history with Emily Liyea (2000-03).
St. Francis (3-6) held a 33-25 margin in shots. Kerrigan Cummins started and had three saves in over 18 minutes while Morgan Conroy played the final 41 minutes, stopping seven shots.
The Bonnies (2-5) return to action at Canisius on Monday. First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.
