BUFFALO – Host Canisius raced out to a torrid start on the way to a 16-5 victory over the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team on a cold and windy Monday afternoon in non-conference play.
The longtime MAAC powerhouse Griffins would not be denied in the early minutes. Canisius scored 40 seconds in to start what became a 10-0 run to begin the game. By the time Jourdan Roemer scored unassisted with 10 minutes left in the first half, the Griffs lead was double digits.
Taylor Fallon got the Bonnies on the board with 8:38 remaining in the half, and the Brown and White picked up a pair of goals from Maddison Appel, both assisted by Mikayla Place, to take an 11-3 score into halftime.
Like in the first half, Canisius opened the second half hot, scoring four unanswered goals for a 15-3 advantage.
Fallon, who found the net on a free position shot, and Olivia MacDonald gave the Bonnies their second half tallies.
Roemer netted four goals to lead all players. For St. Bonaventure, Kerrigan Cummins made eight saves in net.
Canisius improves to 4-5 overall on the season while St. Bonaventure is now 2-6.
The Bonnies open Atlantic 10 play with a trip to Duquesne on Friday.
