Duquesne Drops @BonniesLax In Atlantic 10 Opener

Box Score

PITTSBURGH – An impressive second half from host Duquesne sent the Dukes to a 25-8 victory over the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams Friday afternoon.

Scarlet Jaworski and Mikayla Place had two goals apiece for the Bonnies, who now stand 2-7 overall and 0-1 in Atlantic 10 play. Place led the Brown and White with four total points on the day.

Jill Vacanti and Kaelin Shaw each scored six times for the Dukes who improve to 3-5, 1-0.

After a 3-0 start for the Dukes, the Bonnies rallied to tie following goals from Place, Maddison Appel and Jaworski for the 3-3 deadlock just under 10 minutes in.

From there, Duquesne surged on a 9-0 run to seize a 12-3 advantage with 5:06 remaining in the first half. The Bonnies would close the opening period on a hot streak, though, notching the final five goals of the half to close within 12-8 at intermission following a score from Rachel Perla off an assist from Jaworski.

Duquesne quickly snuffed out any ideas of a Bonnies rally in the second half, however. The Dukes tallied four goals in the opening four minutes of the half as part of an overpowering final 30 minutes. Duquesne outscored Bona by a 13-0 margin during the second half to cruise to victory.

Kerrigan Cummins made 13 saves for St. Bonaventure.

St. Bonaventure returns home to the Marra Athletics Complex on Sunday afternoon vs. George Washington. First draw is slated for noon.
