ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure softball team claimed a 2-0 win over Canisius at Joyce Field under sunny skies on Wednesday afternoon. Carly Bilchak threw all seven innings in the circle, surrendering just three hits and striking out a season-high six.

The win was the Bonnies' first shutout of the season, and the three hits allowed ties the season low.

Emily McDonough went 3-for-4, and Kelli Rohan drove in both runs. St. Bona earned its first run of the game in the bottom of the first. McDonough led off  the game with an infield single, and then stole second. Hailey Blencowe moved her over with a groundout. McDonough then came into score on a sacrifice fly from Rohan to left field to take a 1-0 lead.

The Bonnies scored their second run in the bottom of the third. Kelly Farrell led off with a single to center, and moved up on a single from McDonough. Blencowe advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt. Farrell then scored on a batted ball from Rohan in the infield, and beat out a throw to gun her out at the plate.

The Brown and White threatened in the bottom of the fourth, but wasted a double from Katie Sinclair.

Again in the sixth, the Bonnies had a chance to increase the lead. SBU loaded the bases as Sinclair reached on a throwing error, Kelly Farrell walked and McDonough singled. But, the bases were left loaded and the 2-0 score lasted into the seventh.

Bilchak sent down the Golden Griffs in order for her fifth 1-2-3 inning of the game.

The Bonnies earned seven hits in the game. Three of which came from McDonough, and Rohan, Morgan Phillips, Sinclair and Farrell had one apiece.

Up next, the Bonnies will resume conference play as they welcome Dayton to Joyce Field for a three-game series this weekend. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m., and game three will take place on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
