La Salle Takes 2-0 Women's Soccer Victory

Box Score

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Visiting La Salle continued its hot streak, moving to 7-0 in Atlantic 10 play with a 2-0 victory over the St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team Thursday night at the Marra Athletics Complex.

La Salle (12-3-1, 7-0 A-10) has been dominant in league play this season, outscoring A-10 competition by a 24-4 margin through its first six games of the schedule. That trend stayed true early as the visitors got on the board in just the third minute as Maci Bower used her speed for the game's first goal.

St. Bonaventure had a strong opportunity in the 22nd minute for the equalizer when Danielle Vis played a great ball to Bella May who had a one-on-one opportunity vs. the Explorers keeper. From the top of the 18-yard box, May rifled a shot right on to La Salle goalkeeper Larisa Zambelli who was able to make a leaping stab to just barely knock the ball away over the top of the crossbar.

The 1-0 margin maintained until late in the second half when the Explorers scored the back-breaker off a set piece. Following a corner kick awarded to the visitors, Jess Shanahan placed her corner into the center of the box where Marcela Robinson headed it over the shoulder of the Bonnies keeper in the 76th minute.

St. Bonaventure had five shot attempts on the night, led by May and Vis who had two each. Bonnies keeper Lauren Malcolm finished with seven saves.

Next up for the Bonnies are back-to-back road games, first at VCU on Sunday with a start time slated for 2 p.m. After that SBU will travel to Duquesne next Thursday.
