#Bonnies Defeat Army to Earn First Win of 2017

Box Score

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the 2017 season Saturday afternoon, defeating the Army Black Knights 12-11

The Bonnies put together their most complete effort of the season, scoring a season-high 12 goals to earn the victory.

The Brown and White jumped out in front early with goals by
Taylor Fallon and Mary Maestri. Army would respond with two goals of its own to knot the score at two with 20 minutes remaining.

St. Bonaventure would go back up by two when seniors
Rachel Perla and LeighAnn Stauffer found the back of the net. From that point, Army would go on to score four straight to take a 6-4 lead.

Goals by
Rylee Arnold and Fallon tied the game before Army scored with one second on the clock to take a one goal lead into halftime.

After trailing 8-7, St. Bonaventure went on to score five straight goals to take a commanding 12-8 lead. The Black Knights mounted a comeback, pulling within one goal with just over a minute to play looking to tie the game.

Perhaps the biggest play of the game came with just over a minute to play as
Morgan Conroy stopped a point-blank shot to keep the score at 12-11, and secure the victory for St. Bonaventure.

The Bonnies offense exploded for 12 goals Saturday afternoon. Leading the way were seniors Scarlet Jawarski and
LeighAnn Stauffer. The duo each scored three goals each to lead the offense. Taylor Fallon chipped in two goals, while Mary Maestri scored two goals herself and also assisted on two more.

In net, Conroy put together her best performance of the young season. The junior goalkeeper made 17 saves including multiple stops down the stretch to secure the victory.

Up next, the Bonnies will open their 2017 home schedule with a matchup against the Siena Saints. Face off is set for 11 a.m. at the Marra Athletics Fields Complex.
