STORYLINE
The St. Bonaventure University softball team heads to Jacksonville, Fla. for four games, two each against Cleveland State and host Jacksonville.
LAST TIME OUT
St. Bonaventure was most recently swept in a doubleheader against Little Three rival Niagara on Thursday at Daytona State Community College.
Alexandra Piergustavo was red hot, going a perfect 4-for-4 in game one with three RBIs.
Desiree Gonzalez and Hailey Blencowe put together multi-hit performances in game one with two hits apiece. Gonzalez also scored two runs.
ABOUT THE BONNIES (3-11)
- Gonzalez has been the most consistent Bona hitter so far this season. The senior has started all 14 games and boasts a .341 batting average with five RBIs and as many runs scored. Her .512 slugging percentage is also the best on the team.
- Piergustavo has emerged as a valuable run producer for the Brown and White in her first season in the everyday lineup. The sophomore has a team-best seven RBIs in 13 games played with a homer and three doubles.
- Hailey Blencowe has also played in all 14 games so far this season. Her 11 hits are second-most on the team and she's also scored four runs and driven in three.
- In the circle, Josie Borysevicz has made six starts so far and has been credited with two of the three Bona wins. Her 33.2 innings in the circle are the most on the pitching staff, and her 20 strikeouts are a team high. Kristen Hickling was credited with the other Bona win. She's made eight appearances and five starts for 30.1 innings.
ABOUT CLEVELAND STATE (1-16)
- The Cleveland State Vikings come into the Green and Gold Classic with one win, which came against common foe Canisius on Feb. 12, an eight-inning battle CSU got the best of, 5-4.
- Sofia Johantgen has the highest batting average of any everyday player at .213.
- Mel Woodard leads the team with four RBIs, and Macy Kaisk has hit two home runs so far this season and knocked in three runs.
- Mackenzie Joecken is the workhorse in the circle for the Vikings as she's tossed 42 innings and appeared in eight games with five starts. She was credited with the team's lone win, and she's struck out 21 batters this year, the only Viking with a double-digit strikeout total.
ABOUT JACKSONVILLE (13-9)
- The Jacksonville Dolphins host the two teams having most recently swept Delaware State in a doubleheader on March 8. JU outscored Delaware State, 16-3, in the contests.
- Allie McCourt is the squad's leading hitter at .400 with a team-best 23 runs scored and 28 hits.
- Kristen Griffith has been the Dolphin's top run producer with 19 RBIs. Madison Ragan and Heather Roberts have knocked in 16 runs apiece.
- At 64 innings pitched, Taylor Thorpe has received the bulk of the work in the circle for the Dolphins. She's started six games in 15 appearances and earned six wins while striking out 19.
UP NEXT
The Green and Gold Classic will conclude action in Florida for the Bonnies. St. Bonaventure will next head to Wilmington, N.C. for games against Georgetown, UMass-Lowell and host UNC Wilmington on March 17-19.
