STORYLINE
The St. Bonaventure University softball team will stay in the Sunshine State for a pair of doubleheaders, first taking on South Dakota State in Clearwater, Fla. on Tuesday and then traveling to Daytona State Community College to battle with Little Three rival Niagara on Thursday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies grabbed a pair of wins in their five games at the USF Under Armour invite, coming out on top over Western Michigan, 5-4 (3/3), and a 1-0 pitcher's duel over Fort Wayne (3/4).
Josie Borysevicz tossed a gem against Fort Wayne in the circle, surrendering just two hits and striking out four while walking none to earn her second win of the season.
Kiera Lorenzo delivered a strong performance at the plate in the USF Invite, earning five hits including a pair of two-hit games, with an RBI and a double.
BONNIES NOTES
· Through the team's first 10 games, Desiree Gonzalez leads the team with a .357 batting average and four RBIs with a double, triple and home run for a .571 slugging percentage.
· Hailey Blencowe and Morgan Phillips have both been consistent hitters so far this season for the Bonnies. Blencowe boasts the second-highest batting average on the team at .321 with a homer and three RBIs, while Phillips has eight hits and two runs scored.
· In the circle, Josie Borysevicz has been credited with two of the team's three wins. In her last start, she delivered a complete-game shutout as she surrendered just two hits while striking out four.
· Kristen Hickling has earned the other Bona victory. In her 24 innings of work and four starts, she's struck out eight.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
- The Jackrabbits are coming off a doubleheader split on Monday against a pair of familiar opponents, first defeating Western Michigan and then coming up short vs. Niagara.
- In the win over WMU, Brittney Morse worked two hits while Ali Herdliska drove in a run with a hit and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning on an Erin Mullen single.
- Morse is the team's leading starter at the plate, boasting a batting average over .270.
- In the circle, Ashlyn Bender has made eight starts in 10 appearances, earning four wins.
NIAGARA
- The Purple Eagles earned three wins in the Cleveland State Dome Tournament on 2/11-12, scoring over seven runs in each of their three wins.
- Niagara also earned a win over South Dakota State on Monday, coming out on top in a tight game, 2-1.
- The matchups with the Bonnies are two of seven games in seven days for Niagara in the state of Florida.
- Entering the week, Niagara led the MAAC in batting average (.312) and on-base percentage (.380), and second in slugging percentage (.468).
- The Purple Eagles will take on Providence on Wednesday before battling with the Bonnies.
- The two teams will meet again as Niagara comes to Joyce Field for a doubleheader on April 12.
