STORYLINE
The St. Bonaventure University softball team is set to take on Little Three rival Canisius on Wednesday for a single game.
Earlier this season, the two teams met in the season-opening Charlotte First Pitch Classic. The Bonnies came out on top in their first game of the season, 3-2, on Feb. 17. Canisius took the second meeting in eight innings on Feb. 19.
Hailey Blencowe knocked the go-ahead home run in the season opener.
ABOUT THE BONNIES
- Most recently, the Bonnies were swept at George Mason. In the series, Desiree Gonzalez led the way for St. Bonaventure offensively. In the second game of the season, the senior went 3-for-4 for her second three-hit game of the season. Two of her hits were line drives off the wall for doubles, her second two-base hit drove in a pair of runs.
- Morgan Phillips put together a strong series at the plate, working a hit in each game including a double in game two and a pair of hits in game three.
- Phillips has maintained consistent success as she has now hit safely in four straight games. She also now has seven multi-hit games for the Bonnies, which is tied with Hailey Blencowe, Alissa Karjel and Gonzalez for the team high.
- Alexandra Piergustavo remains the team's RBI leader with 27. Her six home runs are also a team best.
- In the circle, Josie Borysevicz continues to be the top pitcher for the Bonnies. Her 4.60 ERA, 102 innings pitched and 60 strikeouts all lead the team. Rylee Hehir and Kristen Hickling have both appeared in 20 games for the Bonnies.
ABOUT CANISIUS
- The Canisius Golden Griffs are 18-28 on the year so far.
- Samantha Sharkey is the team's leading hitter at .348. Lauren Castro, Denver Keller and Lindsey Silfer are also lineup regulars who boast batting averages above .300 for the Griffs, who hit .282 as a team.
- Castro has knocked 17 doubles, 10 more than the next highest total. Her seven homers and 40 RBIs are also team leading.
- Keller is the team's second-highest run producer with 22 this season. She's also knocked four homers and seven doubles.
- In the circle, Erica Mackie has tossed the most innings for Canisius with 133.1 in 30 appearances and 21 starts. She's struck out a staff-best 71 batters en route to earning eight wins. Madi Weathers has thrown 105.2 innings this season and has the best ERA on the squad at 2.72.
