BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The 2017 season started out in thrilling fashion as the St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team grabbed a goal just 93 seconds into Friday night's contest at Binghamton, but ended with the Bearcats earning a 2-1 victory.

Marley Jarvis wasted little time netting the first goal of the new season. The junior found the back of the net unassisted, allowing the Bonnies to quickly strike for a 1-0 lead. It was the fourth goal of Jarvis' career and second against Binghamton as she scored in the 2016 season opener vs. the Bearcats as well.

St. Bonaventure's edge would stand until the 29th minute when the Bearcats scored the equalizer on a strike from Essie Bonney.

After the two teams headed to intermission tied, Binghamton scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the 61st minute. The hosts took advantage of a loose ball in the box, cleaning up for the score and a 2-1 advantage.

Bella May gave the Bonnies a chance in the 77th minute, driving to the top of the box on the near side of the field, but her shot on net was denied. Two minutes later, goalkeeper Lauren Malcolm came through with a tremendous diving save to keep the score at a one goal margin by diving to her right to stop a shot from point-blank range.

In all, Malcolm turned away 11 shots in net for the Bonnies.

Bella Marra, Maddie Mason and Sydney Cassagnol played all 90 minutes for St. Bonaventure. Freshmen Isabelle LaBarbera and Rachel Collins each made their collegiate debuts while junior transfer Mariah Marrero also made her Bonaventure debut.

The Bonnies are back in action Monday afternoon for a 3 p.m. start at Youngstown State.
