POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team lost a 3-1 decision at Marist on the road Sunday afternoon.
The Bonnies were able to keep the game scoreless in the first half, despite being outshot 13-2 in the opening 45 minutes. The Red Foxes struck first just over 10 minutes into the second half. In the 56th minute Marist's Dav Nkansah-Siriboe hit a low-driven shot to the bottom right corner of the net to take the lead 1-0. Goalkeeper Luke Iacobellis was able to get a hand on it, but was unable to keep it out of the net.
The Bonnies would not trail for long, scoring just 53 seconds after falling behind. Junior Kosi Nwafornso had the ball fall to him off a rebound where he struck a low shot to goalkeeper Mark Rajovic's left for his third goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1.
Two quick goals by the Red Foxes would be the difference.
In the 72nd minute, Marist took a 2-1 lead on a goal from Bruce Jeter following a cross into the box. A minute later the Red Foxes added an insurance goal from Allen Gavilanes, giving Marist a lead it never relinquished.
Iacobellis made a season-high 12 saves for the Bonnies, his first time making double digit saves this season and just one off his career high. Junior Isaiah Wilson led St. Bonaventure with four shots.
The Bonnies are off until Saturday, Sept. 30 when they travel to St. Francis (PA) in their last non-conference game.
