Box Score

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team wrapped up its stay in Charleston on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Charleston Southern by a 9-1 score.

The Bonnies got on the board first in the early going.

Mckenna Holtz worked a walk to lead off the game, but was scratched out on a fielder's choice off the bat of Alexandra Deal. Deal stole second to get into scoring position with two outs, then came home to score when Hailey Blencowe reached on a fielding error by the Charleston Southern shortstop.

The Buccaneers would tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning when Taylor Gleason reached on an error, allowing Christi Takac to cross home.

Charleston Southern smacked back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the third, giving the Buccaneers their first lead, 4-1. Mallory Kasinger launched a two-run blast and Sarah Brown added a solo home run for the hosts.

An error that scored Gleason and an RBI single off the bat of Annie Bakenhus extended the Charleston Southern lead to 6-1 in the home half of the fourth.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Caitlyn Emberson hit a three-run home run to close out the game, 9-1.

Rylee Hehir started in the circle for the Brown and White going three innings (6 H, 3 ER, 5 K, 0 BB). Grace Van Horn entered in relief working 2.1 innings (5 H, 3 ER, 1 K, 1 BB).

The Bonnies fall to 0-6 on the season and Charleston Southern improves to 13-3.

St. Bonaventure now heads north, but remains on the road as the Bonnies will take part in the Coppin State Eagle Classic Friday through Sunday in Baltimore. The Brown and White renews acquaintances with Hartford on Friday with first pitch at 6:00 p.m.
