Bonnies Split Doubleheader on Final Day of Belmont/Tennessee State Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team used balanced hitting and a strong outing from Rylee Hehir to defeat Samford 8-0 in game one Sunday morning. In the second game of the day the Bonnies fell to host Belmont, 6-0.

Game One – St. Bonaventure 8, Samford 0 | 

Hehir pitched a complete game shutout for the Bonnies, picking up her fourth win of the season. Kaitlin Caringi drove in two runs and had a double to lead the St. Bonaventure offense.

The Bonnies bats got going early when Hailey Blencowe singled home Alexandra Deal for a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

In the second inning, Elizabeth Enovitch reached on an error that scored Brooke Kane-Walker. The Bonnies added on another run in the inning when Mikayla Short crossed home, extending the lead to 3-0.

Freshman Grace Perechinsky doubled home Blencowe in the top of the third. Perechinsky also crossed home on a passed ball one batter later for a 5-0 Bonnies lead.

Olivia Golay smacked an RBI double down the left field line, scoring Blencowe. With two runners on Caringi stepped up and hit a two-run double to left field that pushed the lead to 8-0.

Hehir grabbed her fourth straight win in the circle while going the distance. She allowed only four hits and struck out three Samford batters.

Game Two – Belmont 6, St. Bonaventure 0 | 

Belmont got on the board first in the second inning on an RBI single off the bat of Bailey Sims.

A two-run triple from Hayley Baker and a Cheyenne Cavanaugh RBI single up the middle extended the Bruin lead to 4-0.

Jess Andree smacked a pair of solo home runs in the fourth and six innings, putting the lead at 6-0.

Josie Borysevicz took the loss in the circle working two innings (8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K). Sydney Burk entered in the third inning and went the rest of the way (4 IP, 2 ER).

The Bonnies now stand at 5-13 while Belmont improves to 19-4.

St. Bonaventure begins Atlantic 10 Conference play Saturday, March 24 on the road at George Washington. The Bonnies will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and conclude the three-game series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
