STORYLINE
The St. Bonaventure University softball team hosts Little Three rival Canisius at Joyce Field Wednesday for a doubleheader. The first game is slated to start at 3:00 p.m. and will serve as the home opener for the Bonnies.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies traveled to George Washington this past weekend, going 1-2 in a three-game A-10 series to open conference play. Although the Bonnies fell to George Washington in their doubleheader Saturday, St. Bonaventure defeated the Colonials in the final game of the series, 8-7 to end George Washington's 13-game winning streak. Freshman Grace Perechinsky contributed three RBIs and junior Olivia Golay hit a seventh inning home run that allowed the Bonnies to hold on over the Colonials.
WHEN LAST WE MET
Wednesday marks the 67th and 68th meeting between the two sides. St. Bonaventure and Canisius played each other three times last season. The Bonnies won two of the three meetings, one coming in Charlotte, N.C. and the other in Buffalo.
ABOUT CANISIUS
Canisius enters Wednesday's doubleheader with a 3-18 record. The Griffs wins have come against Robert Morris, Saint Francis (Pa.) and East Carolina. Gianna Degaltini leads Canisius with a .269 batting average and is tied for the team lead with Kara Paradowski in hits with 14.
GOLAY AMONG A-10 LEADERS
St. Bonaventure junior Olivia Golay ranks sixth in the Atlantic 10 in batting average, hitting .389 on the season in her 15 starts this season. She also has an on-base percentage of .476, which ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Golay smacked her second home run of the season Sunday at George Washington.
STARTING OFF STRONG
Bonnies freshman Grace Perechinsky has started off her debut campaign strong with a batting average of .306. Perechinsky leads the Bonnies with 15 RBIs and has started in 18 out of 20 games this season.
BASE STEALIN', WHEELIN' DEALIN'
Junior Alexandra Deal leads the Bonnies in stolen bases with six stolen bases, going 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts so far this spring. Deal has also scored 11 runs this season, which is another team high.
UP NEXT
The Bonnies are scheduled to host Atlantic 10 foe Dayton in a doubleheader at Joyce Field Wednesday, March 29. The first game is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
