Robert Morris Sweeps Bonnies Softball

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team travelled to Robert Morris Wednesday and used a big rally to tie late in game one before falling in a heartbreaker, 7-6, and the host Colonials earned a 10-2 decision in the nightcap.

McKenna Holtz and Nicole Antonacci each had two hits in game one and Hailey Blencowe added two hits in game two for Bona.

The Bonnies fall to 8-21 on the season while Robert Morris improves to 10-22.

Game One – Robert Morris 7, St. Bonaventure 6 |

The Colonials jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning off a home run from Katie Isenberg and a steal of home by Kaitlyn Clark.

Brooke Kane-Walker got the Bonnies on the board and cut the deficit in half after reaching on a fielder's choice in the top of the third, scoring Alexandra Deal from third.

Robert Morris opened the game up in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs. Abrielle McCartney's two-RBI single, Clark's sacrifice fly and Isenberg's hit by pitch extended the Colonials lead to five, 6-1.

Bona took momentum back in the top of the fifth inning, however, by rallying back, plating five runs to tie the game, 6-6.

Holtz doubled home Antonacci to open up the scoring and Blencowe followed that by reaching on an error that scored Holtz. Back-to-back RBI singles from Grace Perechinsky and Kane-Walker brought the Bonnies within one. Olivia Golay drove home the tying run with a single that allowed pinch runner Brittany Fair to cross home on a throwing error.

An RBI single in the bottom of the sixth from Natalie Higgins pushed across the game-winning run for Robert Morris, though, to lead the hosts to a 7-6 victory in game one of the day.

Rylee Hehir started in the circle for the Brown and White, allowing five hits and two earned runs in three innings of work. Freshman Grace Van Horn threw a scoreless inning in relief as well. Sam Wood was tagged with the loss.

Game Two – Robert Morris 10, St. Bonaventure 2 (6 innings) | 

The Bonnies got on the board first when Perechinsky crossed home after Alexandra Piergustavo reached on a fielder's choice in the early going.

Robert Morris answered back with four runs in the bottom of the third, pushing ahead 4-1.

Holtz reached first on an error and Piergustavo scored to cut the Colonials lead to two.

Four more runs from the hosts in the fifth inning put the game away.

Josie Borysevicz worked 3.2 innings (7 H, 5 ER, 3 K, 3 BB). Makayla Brzezinski (0.1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 1 K) and Sydney Burk (1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB) pitched in relief for the Bonnies.

St. Bonaventure is scheduled to face off against George Mason is a three-game Atlantic 10 series beginning Saturday afternoon at Joyce Field. Game one is slated for 12:00 p.m. on Saturday and the third game on Sunday is also scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
