STORYLINE
The St. Bonaventure University softball team welcomes Atlantic 10 opponent UMass to Joyce Field for a three-game weekend series. Saturday will be a doubleheader with game one scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. Sunday is the third and final game of the series and first pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies dropped a weekday Atlantic 10 doubleheader on the road at Fordham Wednesday afternoon. The Rams swept the series by taking game one 8-0 and game two, 4-1. Olivia Golay went 2-for-2 in game one with a double and Elizabeth Enovitch added a triple. In game two, Hailey Blencowe and Kaitlin Caringi each had two hits for the Bonnies.
WHEN LAST WE MET
Bona and UMass last met in for a three-game set in April 2016 at Joyce Field with the Minutewomen winning two out of three games. The Bonnies won game two of the series, 5-2. The final game of the series was a 5-4 victory in favor of UMass that went nine innings. St. Bonaventure and UMass were scheduled to play a three-game series last season but the games were cancelled due to weather.
ABOUT UMASS
UMass enters this weekend's series with a 23-12 record and an undefeated 11-0 in the Atlantic 10. The Minutewomen are coming off an 8-0 victory over Hartford on Thursday. Shortstop Jena Cozza leads the A-10 and the NCAA with a .505 batting average and also has 12 home runs. She ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with 43 RBIs. Kiara Oliver is 12-3 with a 2.18 ERA and has 114 strikeouts on the season.
DEAL AMONG A-10 LEADERS
Junior Alexandra Deal continues to provide consistency to the St. Bonaventure lineup. Deal sits atop the Bonnies roster and ninth in the Atlantic 10 with a .351 batting average. She is tied for first in the A-10 with five triples and is also fifth in the league with 11 stolen bases. The Seneca Falls, N.Y. native has reached base safely in 23 out of 33 games this season for a .432 on-base percentage.
UP NEXT
The Bonnies are back in action Tuesday, April 24 on the road against Niagara for a doubleheader. Game one's first pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
