Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – A closely fought match throughout, it would be a header goal with 16 minutes remaining that proved the difference Sunday afternoon as the Cornell Big Red held off the St. Bonaventure women's soccer team, 1-0.
The Bonnies (3-3) had back-to-back chances with 25 minutes to go.
St. Bonaventure placed a shot on net that was punched back into traffic by the Cornell keeper. Christine Napoli collected the loose ball and drilled a shot just over the net from 10 yards out.
Cornell broke through in the 74th minute off a set piece.
A Big Red corner from Emily St. John went directly in front where Kaili Gregory used a header through two defenders in the box to place the shot right over the Bona keeper's head.
With the win, Cornell remains perfect on the year as it moved to 4-0 this fall.
Cornell owned a 10-6 edge in shots and 4-2 in corner kick opportunities.
Ryan Kunkle and Kenzie Tarmino were each credited with two shot attempts while Lauren Malcolm made two saves.
Next up for the Bonnies is a trip to Buffalo to play at Little Three rival Canisius Thursday night at 7 p.m.
