LOUISVILLE, Ky. – St. Bonaventure cross country made the trip to the Bluegrass State Saturday to compete in the Live in LOU Cross Country Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, one of the largest races in the nation.
A total of 353 runners competed in Saturday's men's race with freshman
Clay Peets again leading the way for the Bonnies. The three-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week finished the 8K course in a time of 26:30.9, pacing the Brown and White as he has in each meet this fall.
Junior
Darion Gregory was right alongside his Bona's teammate, crossing the stripe in a mark of 26:36.1. For Gregory, that effort marks a personal best and will rank as the 10th-best individual time in program history. It also easily eclipses the 26:52.8 that the Smethport, Pa. native ran in his first running of the Louisville Classic two years ago as a freshman.
The Bonnies pack remained tightly connected as freshman
Zach Buckner came home in 26:47.1 for his second-best 8K effort of the season.
Senior
Nathan Prisella crossed the finish line with the race clock showing 26:51.1, just in front of sophomore
Zane Courtwright's run of 26:53.5. Courtwright gave the Bonnies another PR time, and a mark that will rank 15th in the Bonnies record books. His previous PR came a week ago when he finished in 27:09 at the Anderson Invite in Rochester.
Freshman
Colin McCarthy also logged a PR of 27:34.6, shaving 11 seconds off his previous best, and sophomore
Brian Gleason rounded out the team's top-seven with a run of 27:37.4.
One of the largest and most well-attended cross country races in the entire nation, the Louisville Classic is in its 20th annual running. Schools from 31 states across the country convened in the Bluegrass State Saturday to compete at the course which has hosted the 2012, 2015 and 2017 Division I national championships and will also host this year's Southeast Regional championships.
St. Bonaventure was one of 36 teams competing on the men's side, led by No. 14 Wisconsin and host Louisville. Wisconsin won the event, with Grand Valley State, Eastern Illinois, Louisville and Lipscomb making up the top-10.
The Bonnies lace up the cleats again in two weeks for the Canisius Alumni Classic in Buffalo Oct. 16.
