ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Sarah Lonzi has earned a promotion to associate head coach of the St. Bonaventure cross country/track program, Bonnies head coach Bob Macfarlane has announced.

"I'm thrilled to announce the promotion of Coach Lonzi to Associate Head Coach. Her dedication, work ethic, and ability to connect with our athletes have been invaluable to our program's success," Macfarlane said. "Over the years, Coach Lonzi has proven herself as a leader, mentor, and strategist, helping elevate our team to new heights. This promotion is a reflection of her commitment to both the sport and the growth of our student-athletes. We are excited to continue building on the strong foundation we've established, and with Coach Lonzi's leadership, we look forward to an even brighter future for St. Bonaventure cross country and teams."

Lonzi is in her eighth season on the Bonnies coaching staff.

She has helped lead a resurgence for the Bonnies running programs as all of the men's all-time individual top-10 cross country 5K and 8K times have been set during her time on staff. Bonnies men's and women's athletes have collected a total of 21 Atlantic 10 weekly awards in cross and track along with nine College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selections. Lonzi has also helped oversee the expansion of the Bonnies track programs with full schedules during indoor and outdoor seasons.

This cross country season, 19 of 20 Bonnies men's cross country runners posted new personal best times while 14 of 18 women's team members registered new PRs. Men's senior Clay Peets posted the top season in Bonnies history, winning three meets and earning Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors. Last year, the Bonnies scored their first points at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track Championships when Aiden Scattergood took fifth in the mile. St. Bonaventure first competed at A-10 Indoor Championships in 2022.

A native of Bradford, Lonzi ran for Bonnies head coach Bob Macfarlane in high school where she won four District 9 cross country titles as well as three track crowns in each the 3,200 and 1,600 meters before graduating in 2008.

Lonzi graduated from Pitt-Bradford with a bachelor's degree in Sports Medicine and also earned her Master of Science in Clinical Health and Physical Activity with a concentration in Exercise Physiology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Following her collegiate career, she moved to the head of the classroom where she became a visiting instructor of exercise science at UPB. She previously worked as an exercise physiologist at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville and also has also served as a cardiopulmonary technician at Olean General Hospital.
