Women’s Swim and Dive Dominate Little Three Rival Canisius Saturday Afternoon

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Sophomores Silvana Cabrera and Ellie Kraus each secured two event victories to help the St. Bonaventure University women's swimming and diving team to a 159-82 win over Canisius Saturday afternoon.
 
The Bonnies notched a total of 11 event victories Saturday afternoon.
 
Prior to and during the meet, both the men's and women's teams sold lime green gear to promote Lyme Disease awareness. All proceeds from the gear is being donated to the Lyme Disease Foundation.
 
On the diving board, freshman Sanayia Joefield earned her first collegiate victory in the 3-meter dive with a score of 223.20.
 
The 200-medley relay team of Cabrera, Allison Lenda, Beth Thomas, and Halle Myers scored a victory with a time of 1:47.07. Also, the team of Kathryn Beyer, Paris Christie, Maggie Metcalf, Rylie Foley finished with a time of 1:52.44 to place second.
 
Cabrera delivered an event victory in the 200-IM with a time of 2:11.83, while Thomas placed third in this event (2:15.95).
 
The Lima, Peru native captured another victory, touching the wall in a time of 56.95 in the 100-butterfly. Myers finished right behind her teammate with a time of 57.39.
 
In the 200-freestyle, Kraus picked up her first victory of the afternoon (1:57.17). She earned the top spot in the 100-freestyle with a time of 52.15, while Amy O'Rourke finished with a time of 53.30.
 
Myers got in to the winning ways with a victory in the 50-freestyle (23.80), finishing ahead of O'Rourke (24.62).
 
Freshman Nele Vetter secured her first collegiate victory in the 1000-freestyle, swimming a time of 11:13.98. Fellow freshman Kathryn Beyer was victorious in the 500-freestyle (5:26.37), while Vetter finished right behind her teammate (5:30.25).

The afternoon was capped off by victories from Lenda in the 100-backstroke (58.45) and Thomas in the 100-breaststroke (1:08.63).
 
The Bonnies' divers will compete in the UB diving invitational on Jan. 13-15, while the swimmers will be off until Jan. 21 when they travel to Binghamton following the holidays. The meet is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
