The St. Bonaventure University softball team will travel to North Carolina for their second weekend trip of the season to take on Elon. On Saturday the Bonnies will compete in a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m., then finish out with a single game on Sunday beginning at noon.
WEEKEND LEADERS
- In the four-game weekend slate last week to open the 2022 season, St. Bonaventure was led at the plate by outfielders Brooke Bobbey (five hits) and Olivia Whitecar (three RBIs).
- Senior Madison Stewart launched her first home run of the season against Hampton.
- In the circle, four Bonnies made their season debut: Emily Phelan (5.0 IP, six strikeouts), Tierney Fitzgerald (8.1 IP, 1.68 ERA, two strikeouts), Elizabeth Lis (one win, 7.0 IP, four strikeouts), and Ally Haskell (6.0 IP, no earned runs, three strikeouts).
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
- Junior Elizabeth Lis earned Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week honors Tuesday.
- Lis was key in the Bonnies' first victory of the season last Sunday against Norfolk State, 7-2, tossing a complete game.
- She struck out four batters while only walking a pair in her first outing of the season. Lis allowed just two hits over the final four innings to shut down the Spartans' offense.
- Her victory on Sunday marked the first of her collegiate career.
ABOUT ELON
- Elon finished last season with an 18-21 overall record and 10-8 conference record last season, falling to Delaware in the semifinals of Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships.
- This season they are 7-3 with their only losses coming against Providence, UMass-Lowell and No. 14 Duke.
- Returning for the Phoenix this season are two of their top three hitters from a year ago, Rebecca Murray (.352 batting average, 42 hits, 20 RBIs) and Megan Grant (.323 batting average, 31 hits, 16 RBIs).
- In the circle this season they are led by Cherry Taylor (21.0 IP, 25 strikeouts) and Isley Duggins (13.2 IP, 10 strikeouts).
- Elon is projected to finish third with 35 points, receiving one first-place vote in the 2022 CAA preseason poll.
UP NEXT
- The Bonnies will travel back to North Carolina for three games at UNC Wilmington beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 5. Game time is scheduled for noon.
