SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – St. Bonaventure claimed a pair of victories Thursday afternoon at the Slippery Rock Invitational.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Thomas Dachik was victorious by running a personal best mark of 10:08.06, better than three seconds faster than his previous PR and good for second in the program record books. Dachik posted the best mark of the day, easily eclipsing second-place Christopher Burgenson of Hood who finished in 10:23.27.
Zach Buckner gave the Bonnies another victory as SBU finished 1-2 in the 5000 meters. Buckner crossed the finish line first with a time of 15:24.98, just ahead of teammate Clay Peets who PR'ed with a run of 15:25.91. Peets' time will be second in the program record books behind only Buckner's school record time set last month.
Colin McCarthy also moves to seventh in the Bona's record books with his 5000 time of 16:03.93.
Darion Gregory and Wyatt Hulsey each bettered their previous personal records with top-five individual program marks in the 1500.
Gregory finished fourth overall out of 22 runners with the fourth-best SBU individual time of 4:10.47. Hulsey was right behind at the finish line at 4:10.77, good for fifth both in the event and in the SBU record book. Both runners qualified for the Atlantic 10 Championships with their performances, as did Dachik in the steeplechase.
Bonaventure had two more top-five finishes in the 800 meters as well with Zane Courtwright coming home in fourth (2:03.35), just ahead of Gregory in fifth (2:04.72).
The Bonnies are quickly back in action Saturday, heading for the University at Buffalo.Â
