Figueroa Posts New SBU Record To Lead Men's Track at Jim Taylor Duals

SELINGSGROVE, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure men's outdoor track team battled cold conditions on Saturday morning and afternoon in their first-ever trip to the Jim Taylor Duals hosted by Susquehanna University.

Junior William McCarthy won the 3000-meter steeplechase by a wide margin, posting a winning time of 10:02.46 which was over 25 seconds quicker than freshman teammate Jack Handman who came in second at 10:28.30.

Senior Christian Figueroa broke his own school record for the 200 meters by clocking in at 22.33, surpassing his previous best of 22.43 set last spring. He finished third in Saturday's event out of 66 finishers. Freshman Cameron Ogletree also moved to second in the program record book (23.18).

Figueroa also showed strong in the 400 with a run of 49.92, good for third out of 32 competitors.

In the 400-meter hurdles, junior Henry Morris placed fifth at 56.85 while Ben Dillon was sixth at 58.82 and won his heat.

In the 800, Joshua Lopez (1:59.66) and Nathan Sikorski (2:00.81) placed fourth and fifth respectively out of 46 runners to time on Saturday.

In the distance efforts, Layne Haught (15:35.76) and Sam Tomm (15:36.60) finished fourth and fifth respectively for the 5000 meters with each recording new top-10 individual program times for the event.

"Battling through brisk temperatures and heavy winds, the men's team embraced the challenge and competed with determination from start to finish. We saw strong progress across the board, highlighted by multiple personal best performances and continued development in every event group.

"In the sprint events, Christian Figueroa led the way with a standout performance, setting a new school record in the open 200 meters. Cam Ogletree continues to define himself as a true short sprinter, showing growth and confidence each time he steps on the track. As a group, the sprinters are taking positive steps forward, with improved consistency and competitiveness.

"In the mid-distance events, freshman Jackson Frisa continues to gain confidence in his abilities and delivered a breakthrough performance by qualifying for the championship in the 1500 meters. As a group, the men are finding their rhythm and gaining confidence with each meet, continuing to build fitness and race awareness. Their progression is a positive sign as they move deeper into the season."

"The distance group continues to put in the work, with a young roster that is learning, improving, and embracing the process. Layne Haught and freshman Alex Rennick have now recorded personal bests in back-to-back meets, showing strong consistency and progress. Their commitment and steady development are laying a strong foundation for future success.
