VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Two program top marks and nine personal bests highlighted the weekend for the St. Bonaventure men's track team at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
In the 400 meters, Bona runners placed 12th through 14th in the 20-competitor field, led by senior Christian Figueroa (50.31) who was just ahead of freshman Kohler Preston who PR'ed in his A-10 Championship debut (50.58), right in front of junior Riley Dillon (51.17).
Figueroa also led the Bonnies in the 200 (22.86) while Preston registered another PR (22.94) to move behind his senior teammate into second in the school record book.
Junior Aidan Hurley jumped to the top of the board in the school record book for the 500 meters with his run of 1:08.08 on Friday night, placing 12th in the championship event. He snuck under the old record of 1:08.10 recorded by teammate Henry Morris last year while Morris was just behind in Friday's race as well, finishing 13th at 1:08.30.
Freshman Cameron Ogletree made his A-10 Championship debut with a school record as well, jumping to the top of the short history of 60-meter dash times for the Bonnies with his time of 7.29.
Sophomore Kieran Maguire moved to seventh individually in the record book for the 800 meters with a PR of 1:58.96.
Bona's 1000-meter qualifiers both set new PRs as well: junior Joshua Lopez checked in at 2:32.47, a second faster than his previous best, while freshman Jackson Frisa was over two seconds better than his regular season PR as he ran a 2:34.38. The Bonnies duo now stand third and fourth respectively in the school record book for the event.
Saturday's competition was highlighted by Malloy besting his previous PR in the 3000 meters by nearly 12 seconds as he posted 8:40.30 to place 17th out of the 25 qualifiers. His time moves to fourth individually in the program record book.
QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH BOB MACFARLANE
"Throughout the winter, the Bonnies showed steady improvement across all event groups, highlighted by multiple personal-best performances and growing competitive confidence. That progress was on full display at the conference meet, where athletes battled through pressure-packed moments and rose to the challenge against the Atlantic 10's top programs.
"This season's success was built on resilience. With severe winter weather making outdoor training nearly impossible, the team remained fully committed to the process. Butler Gym became a nightly training ground as athletes focused on agility, conditioning, and refining running mechanics. In the weight room, Strength Coach Mills played a key role in developing the physical strength necessary to handle the demands of the coaching staff's workouts.
"Assistant coaches Coach Lonzi (middle distance) and Coach Walter (sprints and hurdles) were instrumental in the team's growth, providing leadership and technical guidance throughout the season. Special thanks also go to Taylor Lubi and the Olean YMCA for opening their doors and allowing the team to utilize treadmills when needed to stay on track with training."
"More than just marks and times, this indoor season was about belief, unity, and building a stronger culture. With momentum on our side, the Bonnies now turn their focus to the outdoor season — tougher, hungrier, and ready for what's next."
