ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Gill Conners has earned a promotion to associate head coach of the St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse program, Bonnies head coach Randy Mearns has announced.

"The elevation of Coach Conners to Associate Head Coach is a clear testament to his dedication, commitment and relentless work ethic for the Bonnies men's lacrosse program and our student-athletes," Mearns said. "His positive impact on our players, staff and campus community has helped build and define our program's culture and set us on a solid foundation as we embark on our journey into Atlantic 10 lacrosse."

Conners is entering his fifth season with the Bonnies, serving as offensive coordinator on Mearns' staff. He has worked with a talented unit that has ranked as one of the MAAC's top offensive attacks in each of the past two years.

During the last two campaigns, Conners has coached two MAAC Offensive Players of the Year with Jake Rosa earning the honors in 2021 after scoring 17 goals and adding 22 assists for a MAAC-best 39 points in the 10-game season.

This past year, Sean Westley was named Co-MAAC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league in scoring and surpassing 100 career points while Jackson Rose set the school record and led all MAAC players with 40 goals to earn all-conference honors as well. In addition, Rosa and Austin Blumbergs were named All-MAAC while standing among the league's offensive leaders.

Conners' offense led the MAAC in 2022 at nearly 11 goals per game.

"I am honored and grateful to be named Associate Head Coach of this program," Conners said. "The past four seasons as an assistant coach at St. Bonaventure have been some of the most rewarding I've had in my coaching career. I'd like to thank Coach Mearns for his continued confidence in me and allowing me to fulfill my goals and dreams, especially here at SBU. I look forward to continuing to help lead this program into our inaugural Atlantic 10 season."

A goalie during his collegiate career, Conners has also served as Bona's goalies coach and helped Brett Dobson to MAAC Defensive Player of the Year honors while leading the nation in save percentage in both 2021 and 2022 before being selected in the 2022 PLL Draft.

The Bonnies, fresh off winning the MAAC regular season championship and advancing to the MAAC title game this past spring, embark on a new challenge in 2023 as members of the newly formed Atlantic 10 men's lacrosse league. St. Bonaventure registered a 16-9 combined record over the past two seasons, reaching the MAAC final four each year in just the third and fourth seasons for the program at the Division I level.
