Bonnies In The Pros: April NLL Update

4/15/2026 1:30:00 PM

St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse alumni have found plenty of success at the professional level recently as five ex-Bonnies, each graduates of one of the program's last four senior classes, are currently active on National Lacrosse League rosters.

Brett Dobson, '22 has blossomed into one of the top goalkeepers in the league for the Georgia Swarm after they selected him with the 11th overall pick in the 2022 draft following a fantastic career with SBU. As a starter in every contest so far this season, he has made 645 total saves for a save rate of 84.3 percent. With just 7.94 goals allowed per game this season, which would be his lowest career total in an NLL season, he has collected the third-most goalkeeper wins in the league (10) and helped positioned the Swarm for a postseason spot with a 10-6 record. Most recently, he made 44 saves in a 9-7 setback vs. San Diego April 12.

Also a key part of Georgia's transition game, Dobson ranked second earlier this year in a fan vote held by the NLL for MVP honors behind only Jeff Teat of Ottawa.

A gold medalist with Team Canada at the 2022 World Games Championship, Dobson has also found great success in field lacrosse with the Utah Archers of the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL). He helped the Archers to back-to-back championships in 2023 and 2024, winning MVP in both title games.

On Jan. 20, Dobson signed a contract to stay with the Archers through 2029, tying the longest contract in PLL history. The 2022 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and consensus All-American entered the professional ranks as St. Bonaventure's all-time leader in all statistical goalie categories, still holding those top spots today.

Zack Belter, '22, '23 has stayed in Western New York after leaving St. Bonaventure, playing for his hometown Buffalo Bandits since hearing his name called as the 19th overall selection in the 2022 draft and earning a pair of NLL championship rings. After being sidelined with an injury earlier in the season, he has since appeared in nine contests, causing four turnovers and collecting 16 groundballs this year.

As a Bonnie, Belter was named a MAAC First Team All-Conference selection in 2022, earning a spot on the second team the year prior. He ranks first all-time in program history with 62 caused turnovers and third with 93 groundballs. He helped the Bandits to NLL Championships in each of the last two seasons, becoming the first Bonnies alum to win NLL titles.

Austin Blumbergs, '22, '23 was also selected by the Bandits in the 2022 draft with the 88th overall pick. Now rostered by the Halifax Thunderbirds, the five-year Bonnie who also now serves as an assistant coach for the program has appeared in six games this season with Halifax. In that time, he has scored eight points (5G-3A) while causing a turnover and scooping 21 looseballs. He netted his first goal with the Thunderbirds in a win on March 7.

In a win over Rochester on April 4, he posted an assist as well as four looseballs.

The 2021 MAAC First Team All-Conference honoree ended his time wearing the Brown and White among the program's career leaders in points (66, third), goals (54, fourth) and games played (57, second).

Sean Westley, '22, '23 entered the NLL as the 26th overall pick in the 2022 draft to the Las Vegas Desert Dogs. Named one of Inside Lacrosse's "10 Breakout Players for the 2026 NLL Season," he has tallied six points on an even three goals and three assists this season. Limited to just five appearances due to a lower body injury, he has been sidelined for the past several weeks.

Westley owns the Bonaventure career records for points (156), goals (93), assists (63) and games played (58), also claiming the most single-season points (56) and assists (26) in program history. He was named the 2022 MAAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year as he led the Atlantic 10 with those single-season figures.

Kyle Pepper, '25 is the youngest former Bonnie to be active in the NLL after being drafted by the Calgary Roughnecks with the 11th overall pick of last fall's draft, matching Dobson as the highest professional selection in Bonnies history. In 11 games of action this season, he has scored seven points (4G-3A), caused three turnovers and scooped 37 looseballs. He scored his first career goal on Dec. 6, 2025.

Pepper finished his four-year Bonnies career ranking seventh all-time in program history for points (48) and ninth in goals (25). He recorded 25 points (10G-15A) last year as a senior and veteran leader.

The full 21-week NLL schedule will culminate in an May slate of playoff lacrosse.
