Bonnies Travel To VCU Thursday, Host Davidson on Sunday

The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team continues Atlantic 10 conference play with a trip to Virginia to take on VCU Thursday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Then, the Bonnies will return home to host Davidson on Sunday, Sept 25 at 1:00 p.m.

A-10 PLAY BEGINS

·       The Bonnies dropped their first two conference games of the season against Fordham by a score of 1-0 and at Dayton by a score of 2-0.

·       On Thursday night, Bona's senior Kenzie Tarmino recorded four shots to lead the Bonnies, while sophomore goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger made nine saves.

·       Sunday afternoon at Dayton, Gottinger once again finished with nine saves.

 

NETMINDER NOTES

·       Gottinger currently sits second in the nation in total saves with 76 stops, trailing only Ashley Marlbo of Delaware who has tallied 82 saves so far this season.

·       The Pirching am Traubenberg, Austria native ranks fourth in the nation and first in the conference in saves per game (8.44).

·       Also, in nine games played this season Gottinger has accumulated an 89 percent save percentage which is good for 12th among all Division I goalkeepers and best in the A-10.

·       Her nine saves in both games to start conference play marks the sixth game this season she has finished with nine or more saves.

 

ABOUT VCU

·       The Rams have an overall record of 2-1-7 and have begun conference play with a record of 0-0-2.

·       VCU is led this year by Kendyl Sarver who has tallied 11 points with five goals, while Kanna Matsuhisa has recorded three assists on the season.

·       Redshirt junior Anna Bagley earned a spot on the 2022 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference Team as a midfielder.

·       Senior goalkeeper Whitney Horton has made 39 saves this season.

·       To start A-10 play the Rams finished in a 1-1 draw with both Rhode Island and UMass.

·       VCU finished with 180 points to earn a fourth-place finish in the 2022 A-10 Women's Soccer Preseason Poll.

·       Last season, the Rams captured a 1-0 victory against the Bonnies.

 

ABOUT DAVIDSON

·       The Wildcats are currently 7-2-1 overall with a conference record of 0-2.

·       This season the team is led by Aleia Gisolfi-McCready who has scored three goals, while four other players have each tallied two goals.

·       In net, goalkeeper Mary Grace Bunch has recorded 15 saves so far this year.

·       Last Sunday, the Wildcats lost a 1-0 decision against Dayton and then dropped their last game, 3-1, at UMass.

·       The Wildcats are set to take on Rhode Island this Thursday.

·       Davidson was picked to finish 14th in the 2022 A-10 Women's Soccer Preseason Poll.

·       The Bonnies defeated the Wildcats, 2-1, in their matchup last season. Cristina Torres scored both goals in the victory.

 

UP NEXT

The Bonnies remain at home for a matchup against George Mason on Thursday, Sept. 29. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
