ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y.— The St. Bonaventure University women's swimming and diving team celebrated their four seniors on Saturday afternoon in the Reilly Center Pool and the Bonnies sent their senior class out with a win in their final home meet by topping Gannon, 195-103.
The day kicked off with
Kylie McKee sweeping the diving events. The junior posted scores of 226.35 and 227.63 in the 1 and 3-meter dive respectively to earn the first two wins of the day for Bona's.
The Bonaventure quartet of
Allison Lenda,
Beth Thomas,
Silvana Cabrera and
Halle Myers were victorious in the 200-medley relay, their time of 1:44.35 securing a four second victory.
Kathryn Beyer and
Ellie Kraus finished took the top two spots in the 200-freestyle for the Bonnies. Beyer touched the wall in 1:51.62 to edge out her teammate by a little over three seconds.
The Bona's domination rolled over into the next event as well with Lenda,
Daciana Colon and
Eylul Alli sweeping the podium in the 100-backstroke. Lenda posted a time of 56.11, while Colon finished in 56.59 in her debut with the Bonnies.
Thomas etched her second victory of the afternoon in the 100-breastroke touching the wall in 1:05.54. Teammate
Kathryn Lyons was not too far behind as the runner-up with a time of 1:08.47.
Silvana Cabrera (2:02.75) continued her strong season as she cruised to a nine-second triumph in the 200-butterfly. Myers, meanwhile, took the 50-freestyle with a time of 23.29.
Nele Vetter earned runner-up in the 50-free for the Bonnies.
A trio of Bona's swimmers were in a photo finish for the win in the 100-freestyle.
Amy O'Rourke narrowly beat Kraus by four-hundredths of a second with Beyer only 19-hundreths behind. O'Rourke touched the wall in 51.71.
Colon continued her stellar debut earning her first victory as a Bonnie in the 200-backstroke. The freshman transfer clocked in at 2:04.13 with teammates Alli and
Maggie Holst not far behind to sweep the top three for the Brown and White.
Thomas and Lyons continued to match each other, this time in the 200-breaststroke. Thomas clocked in 2:26.02 for her third triumph of the day, while Lyons posted 2:29.75.
Cabrera tacked on her second win of the day, this time in the 100-butterfly. The junior posted a time of 55.44, just barely squeaking past Myers who finished at 55.46 for second place.
Thomas capped off her career-day with a fourth victory in the 200-IM with a time of 2:11.86 for the Brown and White, while in the day's final event Myers, Beyer, O'Rourke and Kraus teamed up to win the 400-freestyle relay at 3:26.21.
Prior to the meet, Lenda, Thomas,
Maria Mangini, and
Mary Wilson were honored for their four years of hard work and dedication to the program.
The Bonnies will next travel to the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio to compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships. The four-day conference championship meet will begin Wednesday, Feb. 15 and conclude Saturday, Feb. 18.
