The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team is slated for two home matches this week as regular season play begins to wind down. The Bonnies welcome Rhode Island on Thursday for a 6 p.m. kickoff and VCU comes to town for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.

Thursday's game will be the Bonnies Pink Match for The Pink Pumpkin Project Fund. Established by the Pink Pumpkin Project committee, this fund supports women and men in the Olean area and surrounding community battling breast cancer during treatment through moral support and assists deserving and needy individuals with co-pays for medical treatment or related expenses such as travel to medical appointments, prosthetics or help with paying bills due to the burden of other medical costs. There will be free pizza pregame for students, a T-shirt toss, and a halftime competition. All fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the cause.

LAST TIME OUT
St. Bonaventure secured a critical point in the playoff race at Massachusetts on Sunday in a 0-0 draw. The Bona's defense held strong throughout the match with junior Chiara Gottinger turning away five shots and earning her 13th career shutout.

Sophomore Olivia Allen had a chance to give the Bonnie the lead in the second half, losing her defender in the six-yard box but sent her shot over the crossbar.

The scoreless draw brings the Bonnies conference record to 2-2-2 and gives them eight points in the playoff race.

AROUND THE A-10
With eight points, the Bonnies are 10th in the A-10 playoff standings putting them just two spots out of a postseason bid. Loyola Chicago also has eight points while Rhode Island and Fordham have nine. VCU is one point back of the Bonnies with seven.

After this week's games, St. Bonaventure closes out the regular season next week with a match at George Mason before returning home to square off with George Washington.

CAREER MILESTONE
Bonnies graduate student Christine Napoli started in her 75th consecutive game last Sunday at UMass. She has started every game of her collegiate career, playing over 6,200 minutes for the team.

She is climbing the Bonnies record book, ranking top-10 in career games played and starts. Hannah Lapp, '11, owns the career starts record of 81 while Lapp and Tori Burchett, '11, each share the games played record of 82. Sarah Clark, '10, has the minutes played record for a Bonnies field player at 6,985.

RHODY NOTES
Before last season's 2-1 loss to the Rams, the Bonnies had won the previous four meetings between the teams. In 2022, the lone Bonaventure goal came from center back Bridget Kennedy with the helper from Ami Komori

The Rams have a 2-6-6 overall record with a 2-1-3 mark in conference play. Last Sunday, they tied Fordham 2-2 at home. The Rams took a 2-1 lead off a penalty kick from Jordyn Allen before they gave up the game-tying goal in the 89th minute. Before the tie with Fordham, Rhode Island earned wins over George Mason and Davidson.

The Rams have scored just eight goals on the season which is second to last in the A-10. Junior Cristina Sallent is the top point getter on the squad with five (2G, 1A). Senior Faith Hutchins has spent the most time in goal making 56 saves. Hutchins has posted a .848 save percentage this season which is one of the top marks in the conference.

VCU NOTES
The Rams tout a 2-4-1 A-10 record and have gone 3-8-3 overall. In their last three games, VCU has played some of the top teams in the conference going head-to-head with LaSalle, Saint Louis, and Dayton. VCU couldn't find the back of the net in any of those contests dropping all three matches 1-0.

Despite being shutout in their last three games, redshirt senior Anna Bagley is one of the top point scorers in the A-10 with 12. The Rams have used junior Allison Karpovich as their main netminder this season after she saw no action a year ago. The junior has put up 35 saves and a .748 save percentage.

The Bonnies and the Rams have squared off in the previous two seasons with VCU earning wins in both matches. VCU has been one of the top programs in the conference over those seasons coming in third during the regular season in 2022 and earning the title of regular season champions in 2021.
