The Mount Secures Series Finale, 16-9, In Offensive Battle

Box Score EMMITSBURG, MD – Mount St. Mary's came out on top, 16-9, in an offensive battle against the St. Bonaventure University baseball team Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of a three-game series.
 
The Bonnies hit eight home runs off the bat of seven different players in the three-game series. Both teams hit a combined 20 round-trippers over the weekend.
 
Jack Putney, a day after moving into the leadoff spot for the first time, put the very first pitch of the game over the wall in right center for his first home run of the 2023 campaign to give the Bonnies an early 1-0 lead. It would be the first of five hits on the day for Putney.
 
The Mount answered in the bottom of the first inning, scoring five runs on three hits. Jayson Kramer and Shane Wockley each hit two run homers in the opening frame.
 
Kramer tacked on another big fly to give Mount St. Mary's a 13-8 advantage after two innings of play.
 
St. Bonaventure responded with a seven-run top of the third inning.
 
Christian Szablewski kicked off the scoring in the third with a two-run double, followed by a two-run single from Jake Biscailuz to cut the deficit to 6-5.
 
The Bonnies (2-13) continued their scoring in the third inning, grabbing the lead off a Putney single and Jackson DeJohn walk with the bases loaded for an 8-6 advantage.
 
Mount St. Mary's responded in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to one run, 8-7, thanks to Wockley's second home run of the game.
 
The Mount regained the lead with a four-run fourth inning, propelled by three RBI singles in a row to take an 11-8 lead.
 
Mount St. Mary's (9-9) added a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to extend its lead to 14-8.
 
Putney knocked in his third run of the day on his fourth hit with an RBI double in the seventh inning for the Bonnies.
 
The Bonnies threatened in the top of the ninth inning, loading the bases with two outs, but Mount reliever Jeff Davis worked out of the jam to secure a 16-9 win by coaxing a fly out to end the game.
 
At the plate, The Mount was led by Jayson Kramer, who was 4-for-5 with two home runs and five runs batted in. Shane Wockley (four RBIs), David Stirpe (three RBIs), and Scott Seeker (one RBI) each recorded three hits.
 
Out of the bullpen, Davis pitched 2.1 innings and struck out two batters to pick up the save for Mount St. Mary's.
 
Putney finished 5-for-6 with three runs batted in, while  Szablewski and Biscailuz each tallied a pair of RBIs for St. Bonaventure.
 
Putney provided the second five-hit performance of the year by a Bonnies player. Danny Manion went 5-for-5 at New Mexico earlier this year.
 
The Bonnies will make their home opener with a three-game series against Merrimack, beginning with a doubleheader at Handler Park on Saturday, March 25. First pitch is set for noon.
